The Maltings, Enniscorthy

Áluisce Developments Ltd., are delighted to announce proposals for the redevelopment of The Maltings in Enniscorthy. The development is located on the former Minch Norton site and is accessed by Island Road, Irish Street and Barrack St.. The project will consist of two phases with one phase on the South of Barrack St. and the other to the North of Barrack St. Each phase will have a multi-storey car park element to facilitate the development with access off Barrack St.

The project when complete will comprise 36 no apartments, 2100 m2 of office space, 5500 m2 of retail space and 300 car spaces. The old grain store will have a lunch time restaurant in a bistro style with a more formal dining room for evening meals overlooking the Slaney.  Complementing the historic link to the past use of the buildings will be the first microbrewery in the South East. This will brew a unique craft beer on site for sale to locals and tourists alike. It is hoped this may develop into an export beer as local craft brews are  becoming especially popular with discerning beer drinkers all over the world.

The project will employ up to 125 people during construction and approx. 300 after completion.  Employment will be in the service sector categories, a speciality of the Enniscothy workforce.  The value of the project listed above is in the region of  Euro 25m.
The project will retain the listed stone buildings along Island Road and the projected enhancement of these buildings will become a key feature of the Enniscorthy streetscape. The new buildings to be constructed on site will be alandmark in their own rights and will totally transform this key site in the heart of Enniscorthy town.

The renovation of the old buildings, and the re-instatement of Mary St.Nth. are all key visual features of this development. The blend of modern and old architecture will combine to provide an exciting and interesting development linking Enniscorthy's past and its future.

The development will achieve a key objective of the Town Development Plan, namely the development of a retail unit on  the former Minch Norton site. This development will attract a large anchor tenant.  This will expand the choice of shopping for the residents of Enniscorthy Town and District and combined with plentiful convenient car parking will provide an attractive shopping facility.
The proposal will see the repaving of large areas of the streets surrounding the development.

A new artistic feature will be incorporated into the development at the corner of Barrack St. and Island Road . There will be set down areas for taxi's and buses with special bicycle parking bays. The development will feature Enniscorthy's first elevator and there will be a travelator to assist customers access the car park levels from the retail store. Lifts and ramps will be provided to cater for mothers and young children and specially designed facilities will be installed to help disabled persons.These will enhance the convenience and attractiveness of the development for all shoppers.

The office development will consist of a landmark building that will be serviced by the very best in air conditioning, telecommunications and other modern infrastructure. The developers intend to work with all local and national agencies in attracting a new service sector business to this state of the art facility.
